bachelor of science in public health

Welcome to my portfolio
Hi, my name is Tolentina M Ortiz-Piedra, and I am a graduating senior at the University of Texas at Arlignton pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Public Health with a minor in Spanish for Global Health and Human Services. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a strong foundation in clinical research, data analysis, and health communication through both my coursework and my exposure to hands-on clinical experience.
During my internship at UT Southwestern Medical Center through the Heart-Brain Connection Program, I have gained valuable insight. My responsibilities include assisting with neurocognitive, arterial assessments, and analysing both pulse wave velocity and pulse wave analysis. Additionally supporting participant recuitment, reviewing informed consent, and contributing to significant data collection. Furthermore, I have a backrgound of working directly with patient care, where I have gained skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, transparency, and understanding the importance of compassion.
I am passionated about improving health outcomes, addressing health disparities, and advacing patient care especially within underserved communities. In the future, I hope to work closely with medicine by pursuing a career as a physician, where I can integrate clinical practices with public health to promote overall health quality.
This section highlight my clinical research experience at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where I completed my cumulative experience project, "Is there an association between Arterial Stiffness and Cognitive Decline?"
Here you will find a collection of projects I worked on throughout the semester, all connected to my research question. Overall this experience allowed me to connect research with patient care and strengthened my understanding of how clinical research can support early detection and improve health outcomes
